"The Power of Living Iron"
Wim Franssens
Metal Artist
Projects
My pieces often find their origin in nature. Each time I try to convey a message of cheerfulness, warmth and hope.
For the realization of my pieces I mainly use iron, but wood, epoxy and glass are also used.
Artists such as Ursula Von Rydingsvard and Barbara Hepworth and Keith Haring remain a source of inspiration.
Biography
Wim Franssens (Boom, 1974) likes to work with materials that others usually consider to be "heavy". To him, however, they are not. A sculpture must arise organically, so there is no room for materials that do not allow coincidences. And certainly not if they do not want to take on a life of their own. As a result, creations sometimes become real surprises, also for the maker himself.
Text: Koen Van Meel
"Only pessimists forge the iron while it is hot. Optimists trust that it will not cool down."
